Who is behind textbee
textbee is an open-source SMS gateway that turns an Android phone you already own into a programmable SMS API. It is built and maintained by Nuver Labs, a small software studio.
What textbee is
Developers, small businesses, nonprofits, and hobbyists use textbee to send OTPs, notifications, reminders, and alerts from their own apps and automations, without a carrier contract or per-message fees. Messages go out through the SIM in your phone; the API, dashboard, webhooks, and SDK are the glue around it.
The whole stack is open source on GitHub and can be self-hosted. The hosted version at textbee.dev has a free tier and paid plans with higher limits, which is what funds the project.
How the project is run
- Open source first. The Android app, API, and dashboard are all public, and every release is announced in the Discord community.
- Your phone, your number, your data. textbee never sends messages through a shared pool of numbers, and self-hosting is a first-class option, not an afterthought.
- Small and steady. A small team ships regularly, answers support itself, and keeps the changelog honest.
